DEWA wins two awards at Asian Power Awards 2024

emirates7 - Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) secured two accolades at the 2024 Asian Power Awards, held at the Conrad Centennial Hotel in Singapore.

DEWA received the Innovative Power Technology of the Year - UAE award for its Actual Load Profiles Simulator (ALPS) for the distribution network and the Smart Grid Project of the Year - UAE award for its Distribution Automation Smart Grid initiatives.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, stated that these awards underscore international recognition of DEWA’s efforts and solidify its leadership among utilities in Asia and globally, particularly in the adoption of advanced smart technologies for power transmission and distribution.

Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s commitment to leveraging innovation and Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to enhance Dubai's electricity and water infrastructure. He noted that the authority’s smart grid, supported by an AED 7 billion investment plan extending to 2035, is integral to providing services that meet the highest standards of reliability and efficiency.

The smart grid offers advanced interoperability across the entire electricity and water network, enabling faster, more efficient operations. It enhances power transmission and distribution efficiency, reduces losses, improves electrical load management, and supports the integration of renewable energy into Dubai's grid, contributing to the sustainability of the emirate’s energy system.

The Distribution Power Division’s smart grid marks a significant milestone in the digital transformation of electricity networks. It enables 24/7 remote control and management of power grids without requiring physical intervention.

Moreover, the grid employs cutting-edge technologies like a centralised self-healing system and the Automatic Smart Grid Restoration Application (ASGR), which can restore power within a minute. This advanced functionality helped DEWA achieve the world’s lowest electricity Customer Minutes Lost (CML) in 2023, averaging just 1.06 minutes per customer, significantly outperforming the 15-minute average recorded by leading utility companies in the European Union.
