President of Uganda receives Abdullah bin Zayed

emirates7 - President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda welcomed H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the start of Sheikh Abdullah’s official visit to Uganda. The meeting was also attended by Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and Foreign Minister Jeje Odongo.

Sheikh Abdullah conveyed warm greetings from UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Dubai Ruler His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with their best wishes for Uganda’s continued progress and prosperity.

In return, President Museveni sent his regards to the UAE leadership and expressed his hope for the UAE’s ongoing advancement and success.

Welcoming Sheikh Abdullah and his delegation, President Museveni engaged in discussions focused on strengthening the bilateral relationship, particularly in economic, trade, investment, and energy sectors.

Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the close ties between the UAE and Uganda and praised the potential for cooperation in various key sectors that align with both countries’ development and sustainability goals. He reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships with African nations that promote shared growth and prosperity.

Following the meeting, President Museveni and Sheikh Abdullah witnessed the signing of six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Uganda and the UAE:

Investment Cooperation – signed by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State, and Ugandan Finance Minister Matia Kasaija.

Diplomatic Training Collaboration – between the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed by Sheikh Shakhboot and Minister Jeje Odongo.

Energy Sector Cooperation – between the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and Uganda’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, signed by Sheikh Shakhboot and Minister Ruth Nankabirwa.

Visa Exemption Agreement – providing mutual visa-free travel, signed by Sheikh Shakhboot and Minister of Internal Affairs Major General Kahinda Otafiire.

Transport and Rail Development – between Etihad Rail and the Ugandan government, signed by Etihad Rail CEO Shadi Malak and Minister of Works and Transport General Katumba Wamala.

Digital Transformation Partnership – between Uganda’s National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) and UAE-based company Presight, focusing on AI, cybersecurity, e-governance, and cloud infrastructure. It was signed by Presight VP Muhammad Shameen Hosenbocus and NITA-U Executive Director Dr. Hatwib Mugasa.

The meeting was also attended by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan, Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri (Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs), and UAE Ambassador to Uganda, Abdullah Hassan Obaid Al Shamsi.
