On Friday, the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) Council convened in Fujairah to review the latest technical and organizational developments in the sport, as well as to chart future strategies aimed at supporting athletes and enhancing taekwondo’s international profile.
Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, President of the UAE Taekwondo Federation, World Taekwondo member, and Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee, emphasized that hosting this championship supports the Crown Prince’s vision of positioning Fujairah as a premier destination for international sports.
ITF President Dr. Chungwon Choue expressed his appreciation for Fujairah being chosen to host such a prestigious tournament. He commended the UAE’s modern infrastructure and steadfast dedication to supporting sports, which make it a prime venue for top-tier global competitions.
Dr. Choue noted that the Fujairah World Taekwondo Cadet Championships 2025 is the largest edition to date in terms of participant numbers, featuring over 800 young athletes. He also stressed the championship’s importance as a platform for discovering future taekwondo stars and fostering global unity through sport.
Tournament Director Nader Abu Shawish expressed pride in organizing this major event, calling it a significant achievement for both the local sports community and the international taekwondo scene.
He highlighted that the championship presents a unique chance for young Emirati athletes to compete with elite peers from around the world, helping them grow and improve their skills. He added that beyond competition, the event aims to deliver an exceptional experience that reflects the UAE’s strong commitment to youth development and sporting excellence. It also serves to highlight the promising abilities of young athletes while reinforcing the country’s reputation as a hub for world-class sports events.
In their recent meeting, the ITF Council also evaluated bids from cities seeking to host upcoming championships through 2027. It finalized selections for the 2026 and 2027 Grand Prix series, which are part of the qualification pathway for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Cities chosen demonstrated outstanding organizational capabilities and were selected based on their submitted proposals.
