Eco-friendly vehicles account for 81% of imported car sales in South Korea in April

emirates7 - The number of imported vehicles sold in South Korea last month saw a slight year-on-year decline, but eco-friendly models—such as hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs)—made up a record 81 percent of total sales, according to industry data.

Citing figures from the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA), Yonhap News Agency reported that 21,495 imported cars were newly registered in April, representing a modest 0.3 percent from the same month in the previous year.

KAIDA attributed the decline to rising prices and supply shortages affecting certain brands.

Among automakers, BMW remained the market leader with 6,710 units sold, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 4,908, Tesla with 1,447, and Lexus with 1,353 units.

By fuel type, hybrid cars dominated the market, accounting for 63.7 percent of sales. EVs and gasoline-powered vehicles followed with 17.3 percent and 17.1 percent, respectively, while diesel models made up just 1.9 percent of total imports.
