Sharjah Ruler receives Governor of Japan’s Aichi Prefecture

emirates7 - H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, welcomed Hideaki Omura, Governor of Japan’s Aichi Prefecture, on Sunday at Al Badi’ Palace.

The meeting began with a warm reception by His Highness, who engaged in cordial discussions with the Governor and his delegation. They explored areas of mutual interest, particularly in fostering bilateral cooperation in the arts, talent development, and support for artists.

During the visit, His Highness was briefed on Aichi Prefecture’s cultural initiatives, including highlights of the upcoming sixth edition of the Aichi Triennale, scheduled for this September. The international art event will feature 66 artists from 22 countries. It was also revealed that Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Architecture Triennial, has been appointed Artistic Director of this year’s Aichi Triennale.

Governor Omura and his delegation expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan and shared their pleasure in visiting Sharjah. They lauded His Highness's ongoing commitment to elevating the arts and empowering artists through meaningful initiatives.

The Governor also commended Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi for her distinguished contributions to contemporary art on both local and international platforms, which played a key role in her selection as Artistic Director—a notable addition to the Triennale’s leadership.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts and group photographs. H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan conveyed his best wishes to all those contributing to the advancement of the arts.

The reception was attended by Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Art Foundation and Sharjah Architecture Triennial; Sheikha Nawar bint Ahmed Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation; Jun Imanishi, Consul-General of Japan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates; and several cultural officials from Aichi Prefecture.
