Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure adopts new global air quality standards

emirates7 - The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) has announced the adoption of the latest technical specifications outlined by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). This move aims to enhance indoor air quality across infrastructure projects nationwide by aligning with cutting-edge global standards for managing airborne infectious agents and improving indoor environments.

MoEI emphasized that integrating these advanced standards underscores the UAE's dedication to maintaining superior public health and environmental benchmarks.

As the nation advances its infrastructure, these standards will be instrumental in ensuring government buildings are safe, healthy, and equipped to combat airborne pollutants.

To showcase the efficacy of these protocols, the recently completed Daba Fujairah Court and Prosecution project was selected as a pilot initiative. It is the first in the UAE to implement ASHRAE Standards 241 and 62.1-2022. These standards provide detailed measures to curb the spread of infectious agents in enclosed spaces and introduce updated methodologies for monitoring and enhancing indoor air quality. Notably, their application has led to significant improvements in air quality and a 35% reduction in energy consumption for mechanical ventilation systems.

MoEI reaffirmed its commitment to rolling out these standards across all current and future government buildings in the UAE, placing the nation at the forefront of public health and safety advancements.

By embracing these globally recognized protocols, the UAE continues to lead in sustainable infrastructure development while prioritizing the health and well-being of its residents.
