China welcomes 'Year of the Snake' with large-scale traditional celebrations

emirates7 - The People's Republic of China is celebrating the Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, on January 29th, ushering in the Year of the Snake. Cities and provinces nationwide are adorned with traditional decorations, creating a festive atmosphere.

China Central Television (CCTV) reports that the celebrations feature a variety of activities, including lantern displays, folk performances, and traditional parades. In Beijing’s Yanqing District, a lantern festival showcases cultural, artistic, and entertaining light shows and parades.

In Hebei Province, an intangible cultural heritage experience zone has been set up, offering visitors hands-on activities such as seal carving, printing art, paper cutting, and crafting traditional New Year paintings.

Central China's Hunan Province is hosting a special exhibition where visitors can explore elements of intangible cultural heritage, interact with tradition bearers, and purchase cultural products.

The Special Administrative Regions are also embracing the festive spirit. Hong Kong has planned parades and fireworks displays, while Macao’s streets are illuminated with festive lights. Tap Seac Square in Macao is hosting a market featuring festival goods and diverse artistic performances, such as Cantonese Opera, music, singing, and dancing.

As the most significant event in the Chinese calendar, the Spring Festival is a cherished time for family reunions and communal celebrations.
