emirates7 - The National Pavilion UAE has announced an open call for proposals to curate the UAE’s exhibition at the 20th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, which will be held from May to November 2027 in Venice, Italy.
Architects, designers, artists, historians, and researchers with a connection to the UAE or the wider MENASA (Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia) region are encouraged to submit curatorial concepts that spotlight overlooked or lesser-known aspects of the UAE’s architectural narrative.
Submissions should align with the Biennale Architettura’s role as a space for global dialogue, offering a strong curatorial vision that connects local and regional perspectives with international themes, while also engaging with ideas from previous National Pavilion UAE exhibitions.
The opportunity is open to UAE nationals and residents, as well as international applicants with relevant knowledge and experience in the region. Individuals or teams may apply, but at least one team member must reside in the UAE.
Angela Migally, Executive Director of the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation and Commissioner of the National Pavilion UAE, emphasized that the Biennale is a platform for deep thinking and experimentation. She described the open call as a chance for UAE-based curators to connect local research with the global architectural dialogue, exploring the complexities of the built environment both locally and globally.
Laila Binbrek, Director of the National Pavilion UAE, highlighted the initiative’s ongoing dedication to showcasing bold research and cultural insight from the UAE that resonates internationally. She noted that the open call welcomes a wide range of voices, both local and international, who are engaged with the UAE’s architectural evolution and its relevance to future global issues.
Information sessions for interested applicants will be held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, with dates to be announced shortly.
The deadline for submissions is 30th September 2025 at midnight UAE time (GMT+4). Finalists will be invited to develop a comprehensive proposal in the next stage of selection.
