TRENDS participates in Annual Forum for Think Tanks in Arab Countries

emirates7 - TRENDS Research & Advisory Centre contributed a research paper titled “The Use of AI by Terrorist Groups: Threats and the Role of Think Tanks” at the 2nd Annual Forum for Think Tanks in Arab Countries.

The forum, which concluded yesterday, was organized by the Research and Strategic Studies Department of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States. It focused on the theme, “Toward an Arab Mechanism to Counter Threats of the Use of AI by Terrorist Groups.”

The research paper outlined several key roles for think tanks in addressing the challenges posed by terrorist groups utilizing AI technologies. Among the proposed measures was fostering collaboration between governments, technology companies, and think tanks to innovative and effective solutions to counter extremist threats.

The paper also emphasized expanding the role of think tanks in defining the ethical responsibilities of technology companies to prevent the misuse of AI tools. Furthermore, think tanks and research centers were highlighted as vital for facilitating intellectual exchange, sharing expertise, and promoting knowledge transfer among stakeholders working to combat AI-enabled terrorism.

Additionally, these institutions were encouraged to raise Arab public awareness, support countermeasures against the use of AI by extremist groups, and anticipate future trends in this area to formulate proactive strategies.

TRENDS further participated in the exhibition held alongside the forum, showcasing a collection of its latest research and knowledge outputs.
