Kairouan Festival concludes 9th edition activities

emirates7 - The Department of Culture in Sharjah, in collaboration with Tunisia's Ministry of Cultural Affairs, concluded the ninth edition of the Kairouan Festival of Arabic Poetry. This three-day celebration of artistic expression was held at the historic House of Wisdom in Carthage, Tunisia’s ancient capital.

The closing ceremony featured notable attendees, including Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah’s Department of Culture; Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of Cultural Affairs; and poet Jamila Al Majri, Director of the House of Poetry in Kairouan.

In his concluding remarks, Al Owais highlighted the festival as a testament to the strong cultural ties between the UAE and Tunisia. He praised its pivotal role in enriching the literary scene in Tunisia and the Arab world, inspiring further cultural collaboration. He also noted that the House of Poetry in Kairouan serves as a platform for joint cultural initiatives, reinforcing the enduring partnership between Sharjah and Tunisia. This collaboration extends to other significant events, such as the Sharjah Narrative Forum and the Cultural Honouring Forum.

The festival included a literary symposium at the House of Wisdom, where the audience explored the roots of Arabic poetry through discussions led by Dr. Munsif Al Wihabi and Dr. Munsif Bin Abdul Jalil.

Participating poets underscored the importance of Arab poetry houses, which they described as vibrant cultural hubs that provide a sanctuary for poets. They acknowledged the House of Poetry in Kairouan as a key destination for poets from Tunisia and North Africa, celebrating its role in fostering creativity.

Participants also expressed their gratitude to Sharjah, recognizing it as a vital supporter and promoter of Arab creative talent.
