On the opening day, TRENDS hosted a symposium titled "Building Bridges and Shaping the Future: GCC Relations with Southeast Asian Countries." Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research & Advisory, emphasized the potential for enhanced economic cooperation between GCC nations and Southeast Asia. He proposed the establishment of a free trade zone to boost trade, investment, and job creation. Additionally, he highlighted the opportunity for collaboration in renewable energy to support sustainable development and strengthen energy security.
The symposium’s first session, moderated by Mohammed Al-Salmi, Head of the Research Sector at TRENDS, emphasized the importance of fostering relationships between nations as an investment in the future.
Dr. Fithra Faisal Hastiadi, Senior Economist at PT Samuel Sekuritas Indonesia and former spokesperson for Indonesia's Ministry of Trade, discussed the promising future of ASEAN-GCC economic cooperation, highlighting ASEAN's rapid growth fueled by its young, educated workforce and strategic location. He pointed to infrastructure and renewable energy as key areas for collaboration.
Dr. Hamad Al-Kaabi, CEO of Aletihad News Centre and Editor-in-Chief of Aletihad Newspaper, spoke about the media's role in promoting ties between the Gulf and Southeast Asia.
