emirates7 - Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Supreme Council Member, recently announced the completion of the *Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language*, a monumental project spanning 127 volumes. This accomplishment adds to Sharjah's growing contributions to culture, literature, and the Arabic language, benefiting both the Arab and Islamic worlds.

The announcement was made during the launch of the Second Sharjah International Conference on Arabic Language Studies in Europe (SICALE) on September 21, organised by the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre. The conference, which runs until September 22, aims to explore significant topics related to the Arabic language, including advanced studies in Arab humanities, the current state of Arabic in Europe, innovative Arabic teaching methods, and practical experiences in Arabic and humanities studies.

Welcoming a diverse group of scholars and researchers from Europe, Sheikh Dr. Sultan expressed his pride in completing the *Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language*. He stated, "Your presence here today as we celebrate the completion of this monumental work fills us with joy and pride. This is a true celebration of our collective efforts. Over the last seven years, this dictionary has come to life thanks to the dedication of 500 researchers and nearly 200 proofreaders, reviewers, and printers."

The conference brings together academics and scholars from countries such as Romania, Kazakhstan, Spain, Norway, Poland, Russia, Germany, Serbia, Croatia, Denmark, Turkey, France, Greece, and Italy. They will present research papers related to the conference's themes and share their experiences with learning and teaching Arabic, as well as the challenges they face.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan also announced that the team behind the *Historical Dictionary* will continue working in collaboration with the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah on a new project: an *Arabic Encyclopedia*. This encyclopedia will cover literary and scientific fields, becoming a key reference for all.

In his closing remarks, the Ruler of Sharjah reaffirmed his commitment to establishing more cultural centres that promote the Arabic language and culture, alongside valuable projects aligned with these goals.

The conference will explore several important topics, including Arab tales in the West such as *One Thousand and One Nights*, *Kalila and Dimna*, and the stories of Juha; the Arabic language and modern technology; translation and cultural communication; translating the meanings of the Holy Quran into European languages; the portrayal of Arabs in European travel literature; and Arabic manuscripts in Europe.
