emirates7 - The United Arab Emirates will take part in the 2025 United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, set to take place at the UN Headquarters in New York. Organised by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the forum will spotlight the global effort to advance the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the event, the UAE delegation will present the country’s integrated development model, highlighting its ongoing commitment to accelerating SDG progress through robust international cooperation and partnerships.
The UAE will center its efforts on five key goals:
Goal 3: Promoting health and well-being for all;
Goal 5: Achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls;
Goal 8: Fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment, and decent work;
Goal 14: Safeguarding marine ecosystems and using ocean resources sustainably;
Goal 17: Enhancing global partnerships for sustainable development.
The delegation comprises representatives from the UAE’s National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Investment, Government Experience Exchange Programme, Dubai Chamber of Commerce, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, and Noor Dubai Foundation (part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives), working in coordination with the UAE’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York.
Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange and Chair of the National Committee on SDGs, reaffirmed that the UAE’s engagement reflects its global responsibility to promote sustainable development through innovation, smart governance, and technology. He underscored the importance of building broader international partnerships for knowledge and development sharing.
On the sidelines of the Forum, the UAE will host a high-level global retreat to address current development challenges and identify future opportunities. It will also organise a dedicated exhibition highlighting national achievements and contributions to the SDGs, particularly in clean energy, digitalisation, healthcare, and education.
Ahead of the Forum, the National Committee on the SDGs convened a comprehensive meeting to evaluate the readiness of the delegation and assess national progress in implementing the goals. Discussions also focused on expanding global cooperation and potential agreements to be signed during the event.
Taking place from 14 to 23 July 2025 under the theme “Reinforcing sustainable, inclusive, and evidence-based solutions to deliver the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, leaving no one behind,” the forum will feature voluntary national reviews from 37 countries, showcasing their progress toward achieving the global goals.
