DEWA's electricity transmission investments surpass AED7.6 billion

emirates7 - Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), announced that the total value of DEWA’s electricity transmission network projects has surpassed AED 7.6 billion.

He stated that in the first half of 2025, DEWA commissioned four 132 kV substations with a combined conversion capacity of 450 megavolt-amperes, at a cost of AED 725 million. These projects included the installation of 228 kilometers of transmission cables.

Al Tayer added that DEWA is currently constructing 49 new 132 kV substations and two 400 kV substations. Additionally, the authority is inviting bids from major contractors for the development of 11 new 132 kV transmission substations.

Looking ahead, DEWA plans to issue tenders over the next three years for more than 57 additional 132 kV substations and to install 160 kilometers of underground transmission cables.

Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA, mentioned that the recently completed substations cater to various areas, including two in Al Yalayis 5 to support housing projects for Emirati citizens, along with others in Hatta and Warsan 4.

By the end of the first half of 2025, DEWA's total number of electricity transmission substations had reached 391, comprising 27 substations at 400 kV and 364 at 132 kV.

These developments required over 4.5 million working hours and incorporated state-of-the-art digital technologies recognized internationally.

Furthermore, DEWA has awarded contracts worth AED 1.1 billion to construct 10 new 132 kV substations across different parts of Dubai, including Al Barsha South 2, Business Bay, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Airport City, Nad Al Sheba 1, and Wadi Al Safa 5.

The authority has also approved projects to lay 132 kV cables connecting these new substations to the main transmission network. The total length of these cables will be 60.6 kilometers, with an estimated cost of AED 288 million.
