emirates7 - The General Women’s Union (GWU), guided by the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak—Chairwoman of the GWU, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Head of the Family Development Foundation—continues to implement the “Suqia, Fatima bint Mubarak” initiative, which promotes social solidarity, especially during the summer months.
Launched in 2016 with the support of both public and private sector partners, the initiative offers vital assistance to outdoor workers who face extreme heat. It involves the distribution of water, juices, dates, and heat protection items like umbrellas to reduce the risks associated with working in high temperatures.
Running through July, August, and September, the campaign reaches thousands of workers across Abu Dhabi. It reflects Sheikha Fatima’s ongoing commitment to supporting laborers and acknowledging their vital role in society.
This year, the program has grown in size and reach, adding new service locations and broadening its offerings in cooperation with national organizations. This growth reflects Sheikha Fatima’s broader humanitarian goals, which emphasize empowerment, kindness, and reinforcing the UAE’s image as a nation of generosity and inclusion.
Noura Al Suwaidi, GWU Secretary-General, described the initiative as a leading example of humanitarian work inspired by Sheikha Fatima. She highlighted that it embodies the UAE’s principles of unity and empathy, and reflects the Union’s focus on long-term community support efforts that address the needs of laborers during the difficult summer season.
Al Suwaidi also confirmed the GWU’s ongoing commitment to growing the initiative through joint efforts with various partners, helping to enhance the UAE’s international standing in the field of humanitarian service.
