emirates7 - The Dubai International Program for Writing (DIPW), a key initiative of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), has introduced a four-month 'Novel Writing Workshop' in Jordan. Held at the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation (AHSF) in Amman, the workshop is led by Dr. Shahla Ujayli, an expert in Arabic literature.
This workshop aims to enhance the literary skills of young talents by teaching them the essentials of novel and creative writing through contemporary training methods. It provides practical guidance and ongoing support to help participants develop their abilities and distinctive literary works.
Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of the MBRF, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating: “We are thrilled to advance the MBRF’s significant role in enriching the literary and intellectual landscape in Jordan through our Novel Writing Workshop, particularly to support youth. Our primary goal is to nurture emerging literary talents by refining their writing skills. This workshop, part of DIPW’s broader initiatives across various Arab cities, demonstrates MBRF’s dedication to expanding its support and empowerment for youth throughout the Arab region.”
The workshop aligns with DIPW’s mission to advance the literary and intellectual movement in Arab communities by fostering young talent in novel writing. Under Dr. Shahla Ujayli’s expert guidance, participants will benefit from high-quality education and hands-on training, essential for aspiring writers. The workshop also plays a crucial role in developing young writers’ creative potential, equipping them with the skills to produce novels recognized both regionally and globally.
In addition to novel writing, DIPW offers workshops in translation, children’s literature, and literary criticism. These programs aim to support writers and young talents across the Arab world, cultivate a love for reading, and strengthen literature’s role in society.
Previously, DIPW has organized similar workshops in countries such as Kuwait, Tunisia, Morocco, and Egypt. It plans to extend its efforts beyond the Arab world through its Exchange of Writers program, which has already included collaborations with authors from Germany and Japan and sent young Emirati writers to Japan for cultural exploration.
Over the past decade, DIPW has trained over 400 individuals and published approximately 200 books by its participants, spanning various genres including novels, short stories, travel literature, literary criticism, translation, and children’s literature, with some works receiving notable awards.
