On behalf of UAE President, Reem Al Hashimy participates at 2024 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week

emirates7 - On behalf of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, visited Lima, Peru, to attend the 2024 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. The UAE’s participation as a Guest of Honour at this prominent multilateral forum underscores the strong bilateral ties with Peru and reinforces the UAE's position as a dependable multilateral partner. The visit opened new avenues for collaboration between the UAE and APEC members, including Peru, particularly in areas such as innovation, digital transformation, and global climate action.

During the leaders’ meeting, chaired by President Dina Boluarte, Al Hashimy thanked the President of Peru for the invitation, emphasizing that this special role would further deepen cooperation between the UAE and APEC economies in future multilateral platforms. She highlighted that this engagement reflects the UAE’s role as a vital economic partner and a modern financial, trading, and investment hub, committed to multilateralism and constructive dialogue.

Al Hashimy reiterated the shared commitment of both nations to strengthen cooperation in economic development and climate action at both the regional and global levels. She also highlighted the theme of the 2024 APEC Forum, “Empower. Include. Grow,” stressing its importance for promoting sustainability, inclusive growth, a just energy transition, and policies that foster sustainable trade, investment, and innovation in the Asia-Pacific region.

In her remarks, Al Hashimy pointed to the UAE’s leadership in climate action, notably during COP28, which marked a pivotal moment in climate diplomacy. She emphasized the historic UAE Consensus, a landmark agreement signed by 198 countries that charted a new course for global climate action. Additionally, she reaffirmed the UAE’s strong support for the COP29 presidency in Baku.

The UAE’s approach aligns with APEC’s goals of fostering inclusive and sustainable growth while enhancing resilience to shared global challenges. During her visit, Al Hashimy also met with Peru’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Elmer Schialer, to discuss strengthening political and economic cooperation, as well as people-to-people connections.

Al Hashimy expressed her gratitude to President Boluarte and the Peruvian government for their support in advancing bilateral relations, and expressed confidence that ongoing efforts to deepen UAE-Peru ties will continue to promising opportunities for both countries and their peoples.
