emirates7 - As the UAE continues to strengthen its position as a global hub for innovation and business, road safety remains a crucial aspect of its social sustainability initiatives.
In the fourth year of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030, which aims to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by half by 2030, the Intersec 2025 Safety & Health Conference will feature prominent global experts discussing critical road safety challenges.
The event, taking place from January 14–16, 2025, at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), will explore how organizations in the UAE and across the region can adopt strategic approaches to mitigate road-related risks and align with the goals of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety, developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations.
Despite a rising global toll on road fatalities, with 92% occurring in low- and middle-income countries that only account for 60% of the world's vehicles, Dubai has bucked the trend. The emirate achieved a 93% reduction in road fatalities between 2007 and 2023, reaching a historic low of 1.6 deaths per 100,000 people in 2023, thanks to enhanced traffic enforcement and infrastructure improvements.
Dr. Karen McDonnell, Head of Global Relations at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), highlighted the need for a "safe systems" approach, emphasizing policies, innovative technology, and public-private partnerships to make a measurable impact on reducing road fatalities and injuries.
Eugene Mayne, Founder and CEO of UAE-based Tristar Group, shared his company’s success in achieving over 500 million kilometers driven without a fatality, attributing it to strong leadership and cutting-edge technologies like their patented fatigue detection system.
The conference will provide a platform for global safety professionals to discuss the latest trends in workplace and road safety. On January 15, the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) will curate the conference's program, focusing on empowering organizations to prioritize safety.
Alongside the conference, the exhibition at Intersec 2025 will feature 180 exhibitors from 30 countries, offering tailored solutions in safety, health, security, fire protection, and other sectors. The event expects over 42,000 trade visitors from around the world and will be themed "Mapping the Future in Safety, Security & Fire Protection."
