emirates7 - The UAE is set to host the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), the world’s premier competition in chemistry, welcoming over 360 students from more than 90 countries to Dubai from July 6 to 14, 2025. This edition will mark a record-breaking level of participation since the Olympiad’s inception in 1968, highlighting the UAE’s growing prominence in global science and education.
Minister of Education Sarah Al Amiri emphasized that hosting such a renowned event aligns with the UAE’s strategic vision to establish itself as a global hub for education, scientific advancement, innovation, and academic excellence. She noted that the event will inspire local students and help cultivate a new generation of innovative, globally competitive scientists. It also presents a key opportunity to elevate education quality and a learning environment in line with leading international standards.
Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to the UAE President and Chancellor of UAE University (UAEU), described IChO 2025 as a distinguished international platform celebrating academic achievement and scientific creativity among youth. He also underscored UAEU’s active role in supporting scientific research and education. He affirmed that the university’s involvement in IChO reflects its commitment to national leadership in producing and sharing knowledge for the greater good.
Nusseibeh added that through this engagement, UAEU aims to address global challenges and contribute to a future rooted in knowledge, innovation, and discovery. He highlighted the importance of empowering youth and promoting international scientific cooperation as key drivers for a more sustainable and prosperous world.

This edition of IChO will also showcase innovative technologies such as digital monitoring tools and an integrated practical testing system, setting a benchmark for future educational laboratories.
Representing the UAE in the competition will be four students selected through a competitive national process. They have undergone rigorous training, including expert-led workshops at UAEU and participation in a science camp at the Sirius Education Centre in Russia.
This initiative reflects the Ministry’s strong commitment to nurturing national talent and equipping students to achieve international standards in scientific excellence. IChO 2025 also aims to ignite greater interest in chemistry and related disciplines among Emirati youth, while encouraging educational institutions to modernize their curricula to align with global best practices.
