emirates7 - Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, led an official delegation at the Global Logistics Forum 2024, organized by the Saudi Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services under the patronage of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The forum, held from October 12 to 14 at the King Abdullah Financial District, aimed to enhance international collaboration and reshape the global trade and supply chain landscape.
During the event, Al Mazrouei attended the Ministerial Diwan, which brought together several ministers. He expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its continued support of the logistics sector and emphasized that such events are valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, learn from international best practices, and explore new economic and investment prospects.
Al Mazrouei also participated in a ministerial session alongside notable figures such as Saleh bin Nasser Aljasser, Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services; Khalid Al-Falih, Saudi Minister of Investment; Lieutenant-General Kamel Al-Wazir, Egyptian Minister of Transport; and Saeed bin Hamoud Al Mawali, Omani Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology.
The UAE Minister highlighted the importance of regional and global cooperation in improving connectivity, diversifying logistics supply chains, and developing international transport routes. He remarked, "The UAE continues to strengthen its position as a global leader in logistics services, leveraging its advanced infrastructure and strategic location. Our government is committed to enhancing connectivity with global markets to foster sector growth and sustainability. In line with this, the UAE has invested in railway infrastructure in Oman and Jordan, as well as logistics infrastructure across 78 countries, while managing 112 ports worldwide."
Reflecting on the UAE’s achievements in global competitiveness rankings, Al Mazrouei noted, "In 2023, the UAE was ranked 7th globally in logistics performance, 1st in air transport infrastructure quality, and 3rd in facilitating sea-trade and ship refuelling. Additionally, it was ranked 3rd globally in air transport efficiency, 5th as a maritime center, and 1st in the Arab region for road quality. The nation also secured 9th place globally for seaport efficiency, 12th in maritime transport, and 13th in maritime connectivity and navigation lines."
He further emphasized the UAE’s dedication to enhancing global logistics through technological advancements. The UAE has been a pioneer in adopting maritime single window systems, and Abu Dhabi Ports has integrated blockchain technology into its operations. The launch of the Blue Pass Multimodal, a unified digital portal for multi-modal shipping, has been a key initiative, expanding from the maritime sector to air and land transport. Currently, over 300 companies are registered on the portal, providing services to over 25,000 ships.
Addressing sustainability, Al Mazrouei explained that the UAE is committed to reducing the energy and climate costs of logistics by adopting alternative energy sources and implementing emissions reduction measures. The Global EV Market project aims to increase the number of electric and hybrid vehicles in the UAE to 3.6 million by 2050, representing 50% of all registered vehicles. Additionally, the UAE has introduced a General Policy for Sustainable Aviation Fuel, targeting an annual production capacity of 700 million liters by 2030 to meet the growing demand in the aviation sector. The UAE has also established the first Maritime Decarbonisation Centre in the MENA region, serving as a global hub for collaboration on maritime sustainability solutions.
Al Mazrouei highlighted the UAE's logistical capabilities, stating, "The country has 12 commercial seaports, along with oil ports, and 310 berths capable of handling 80 million tonnes of goods. In 2023, over 24 million standard containers were processed from 25,000 ships docking at UAE ports. Additionally, the UAE’s six national carriers operate flights to 224 destinations worldwide, with air freight totaling 3.7 million tonnes in 2023. The nation also boasts an advanced road network, with 925 km of federal roads and 1,200 km of railway."
