Abu Dhabi Customs, Indian delegation explore cooperation to facilitate bilateral trade

emirates7 - The General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs recently hosted a collaborative workshop with an official delegation from the Republic of India, led by Arti Agarwal Srinivas, Director-General of Systems and Data Management at India’s Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), under the Ministry of Finance. The delegation also included representatives from the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

The workshop focused on exploring ways to enhance bilateral trade cooperation, boost supply chain efficiency, and advance the digital trade corridor linking the two countries.

As part of the visit, the Indian delegation met with Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Customs. Both parties discussed strategies to strengthen customs collaboration and accelerate digital transformation efforts to improve procedural efficiency and facilitate smoother cross-border trade.

The workshop featured an in-depth presentation of Abu Dhabi Customs’ sophisticated digital infrastructure and technological capabilities, which include a smart, integrated system delivering 24/7 services, as well as the use of blockchain technology and platforms like TAMM and ATLP. These tools form part of the broader “invisible customs” ecosystem designed to streamline operations.

Discussions covered several key technical areas, such as system integration between the two nations, data exchange mechanisms, and simplified customs procedures. These conversations were held within the context of the MAITRI initiative—a middleware platform aimed at connecting various national systems to support seamless international trade.

MAITRI is intended to serve government agencies, customs authorities, importers, exporters, and logistics providers by establishing a secure, fully digital trade corridor. This initiative is expected to accelerate customs clearance, improve transparency and regulatory compliance, enhance trade flow, and reduce both processing time and operational costs for stakeholders in both countries.

The workshop aligns with Abu Dhabi Customs’ broader strategy to foster global partnerships with customs administrations and adopt innovative digital solutions that support international trade, contributing to Abu Dhabi’s and the UAE’s economic growth goals.
