emirates7 - Manchester United legend David Beckham has been overlooked for a knighthood again... more than four years after allegedly slamming the New Year's Honours committee.
David Beckham was again snubbed in the New Year's Honours list, despite reportedly being given the "all clear" to receive a knighthood.
The former England captain is widely regarded as a sir-in-waiting after enjoying a remarkable footballing career - both on and off the pitch.
Beckham won trophies in England, Spain, France and the US - including the Champions League with Manchester United.
He was also the most marketable player of his generation, becoming a British cultural icon and a global ambassador for the sport.
It's believed Beckham, who is an OBE, was previously ineligible for a knighthood because of an issue with HM Revenue and Customs.
Although that problem has reportedly been resolved, Beckham was not included in the New Year's Honours list.
Cycling icons Laura and Jason Kenny have become the first wife and husband to receive a damehood and knighthood in the same honours list for their Olympic exploits.
Tennis ace Emma Raducanu received her MBE for becoming the first qualifier to win the US Open... but there was no place for Beckham in the sporting highlights.
And Becks may need to impress the Royals if he wants to be considered in future after some shocking emails were leaked in 2017.
He was alleged to have branded the honours committee "unappreciative c***s" and insisted he didn't "care about being knighted".
Beckham later claimed some of the emails had been "doctored" but told friends he did write others "in the heat of the moment".
He also allegedly wrote: "I expected nothing less. It's a disgrace to be honest and if I was American I would of got something like this 10 years ago."
Another email was reportedly aimed at singer Katherine Jenkins' OBE. "For what?" Beckham is alleged to have asked. "Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops..."
Many in the media slammed Beckham for his comments, including Piers Morgan. "Oh. My. God. RIP Brand Beckham..." tweeted the broadcaster.
Morgan later added: "Nobody will be envious of David Beckham by tomorrow. They will all be sickened by him."
A close friend of Beckham exclusively told The Mirror in 2017 : "He is very calm at the moment because he knows the great work that he has done for UNICEF.
"But he is just saddened that people would question all of that work. Genuinely, he wasn’t as vitriolic as that, but you do say some things in private and in the heat of the moment.
"To be honest, he does feel that he has given so much to his country. And sometimes you say things in private that anyone would say and you don’t really mean it.
"While he was frustrated in those emails, he was over it the moment he sent them. Getting the knighthood is not what his work is about.
"He doesn’t care if he gets a knighthood or not."
