emirates7 - The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Academy, overseen by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, has announced the launch of the “Nokhatha Abu Dhabi” programme starting on June 30.
Spanning two months, the programme is expected to attract more than 200 participants, including sailors and sailing enthusiasts.
Its goal is to promote traditional sailing culture among younger generations and deepen their connection to the UAE’s maritime heritage. The programme focuses on teaching essential sailing and dhow navigation skills, preparing participants to compete in 22-foot dhow sailing races.
Moreover, it aims to identify young talents through dedicated teams who will observe and assess participants, helping them progress to compete in the 43-foot and 60-foot dhow categories. This approach ensures the preservation of the traditional sport and fosters a new generation of nokhathas committed to carrying forward the maritime legacy.
Held on the shores of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, the programme includes weekly training sessions over a set period.
This initiative supports the Academy’s strategic vision, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, to preserve the UAE’s maritime heritage while presenting it in a way that appeals to today’s youth. It also underscores the wise leadership’s dedication to heritage sports, in line with the declaration of 2025 as the “Year of Community.”
