Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed chairs 2nd meeting of International Humanitarian and Philanthropy Council

emirates7 - His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs and Chairman of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council (IHPC), presided over the Council’s second meeting.

During the session, members discussed the strategic vision for the UAE’s foreign aid sector and reviewed the 2024 Foreign Aid Report, along with capacity-building programmes designed to empower professionals working in the humanitarian field.

H.H. Sheikh Theyab stressed the importance of unified efforts among all relevant national entities to implement a wide range of humanitarian and development initiatives across various countries. These efforts reflect the UAE’s broader mission to support global development and prosperity—an approach rooted in the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and further advanced under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The UAE remains firmly committed to supporting vulnerable communities worldwide and delivering sustainable solutions to tackle global challenges in key areas.

Sheikh Theyab highlighted the need to align the country’s humanitarian and development activities with both national priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These include objectives related to education, healthcare, disease eradication, poverty reduction, food and water security, economic development, environmental sustainability, and biodiversity preservation.

He also noted that the UAE’s diverse humanitarian projects around the world underscore its leadership and impact in global aid and development efforts.

The Council emphasized the importance of formalizing the UAE’s model of generosity and global aid leadership to ensure dignity and improved living standards for beneficiary communities. It reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to using its resources, capabilities, and international partnerships to support those in need.

The meeting underlined the importance of achieving long-term humanitarian impact through innovation, integrated programming, and the creation of economic opportunities. It also stressed the need to improve communication in the delivery of aid.

Members also reviewed the Humanitarian Foresight Programme, which aims to build the skills, knowledge, and practical experience of leaders in the humanitarian and development sectors. The programme provides cutting-edge scientific and technological training aligned with national priorities, and boosts the capabilities of professionals in donor agencies and charitable organisations to effectively plan and execute global initiatives.

Additionally, the Council discussed its support for the Master of Arts in Humanitarian and Development Work offered at the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy. This programme is designed to build specialised expertise among professionals in humanitarian institutions, particularly within the UAE Aid Agency.

The advanced degree focuses on enhancing decision-making, managing multicultural teams, and running complex humanitarian operations, while deepening participants’ understanding of development, international law, diplomacy, and global priorities.

The meeting was attended by Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Community Empowerment; Faris Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Advisor at the Presidential Court; Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent; and Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
