Joint Statement on Israel’s Knesset approval of declaration to impose sovereignty over occupied West Bank

emirates7 - The United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Indonesia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Türkiye, the League of Arab States, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli Knesset’s recent approval of a declaration seeking to impose so-called “Israeli sovereignty” over the occupied West Bank. They view this move as a clear and unacceptable violation of international law and a direct breach of key UN Security Council resolutions—specifically Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973), and 2334 (2016)—which reject any attempts to legitimise the occupation or the expansion of settlements in Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.

These countries firmly reiterate that Israel holds no legal sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and they stress that this unilateral declaration has no legal validity and does not change the status of the territory, especially East Jerusalem, which remains an inseparable part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The statement further warns that such Israeli actions heighten tensions across the region, which have already been intensified by ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza and the resulting humanitarian crisis.

The signatories urge the international community—including the UN Security Council and relevant global actors—to fulfill their legal and moral obligations by taking urgent measures to stop Israel’s illegal efforts to enforce realities on the ground through force, efforts that jeopardise the chances for a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution.

Finally, the countries reaffirm their unwavering support for the two-state solution, grounded in international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, and advocate for the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
