Applications open for MBZUAI’s Undergraduate Research Internship Programme

emirates7 - Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has opened applications for the third edition of its Undergraduate Research Internship Programme (UGRIP).

This competitive program selects top third- and fourth-year STEM undergraduate students globally to participate in a month-long AI-focused internship in Abu Dhabi.

The fully-funded internship will allow students to engage with leading AI researchers and gain hands-on experience in areas like computer vision (CV), machine learning (ML), and natural language processing (NLP) at MBZUAI's Abu Dhabi campus during the summer of 2025.

The success of the program is highlighted by the fact that over 50% of the participants from the inaugural edition have advanced to postgraduate studies or research roles at MBZUAI.

Professor Timothy Baldwin, MBZUAI's Provost, commented, "UGRIP has proven to be a significant platform for aspiring researchers to gain real-world experience and make an impact through AI projects. We are eager to welcome more of the world's top STEM students to work alongside our faculty and researchers."

Since its launch, 79 students from renowned universities, including Harvard, Yale, Johns Hopkins, University of Padova, IIT Madras, and others, have joined UGRIP following a rigorous selection process.

The interns will work on over 10 research projects designed by MBZUAI faculty. Last year's interns participated in a brain tumour segmentation challenge using CV techniques to identify tumours in medical images.

Beyond academic work, UGRIP interns will also explore Abu Dhabi's cultural heritage, with trips organized by the Abu Dhabi Residents Office (ADRO) and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT) to landmarks like Qasr Al Hosn, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, and the Abrahamic Family House.
