emirates7 - UAE-based SpaceTech firm Space42 has officially launched the Thuraya Mobile Broadband Hotspot (MBH), a lightweight, secure, and cost-effective broadband terminal designed to provide critical mobile communications in remote and underserved regions.
With increasing demand for uninterrupted connectivity, many land and maritime areas still fall outside terrestrial network coverage—posing risks to safety, emergency response, and vital operations. Thuraya MBH fills this gap by offering reliable, easy-to-deploy satellite communication across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia.
Operating on the existing Thuraya satellite network, the MBH is also future-ready, fully compatible with the upcoming Thuraya-4 satellite—one of the largest and most advanced mobile satellite systems in development. It is the first of over 15 products to support Thuraya-4, targeting both commercial and government sectors.
Sulaiman Al Ali, Chief Commercial Officer of Space Services at Space42, emphasized the importance of the launch:
“Thuraya MBH keeps essential communications running where traditional networks fall short. It integrates seamlessly with current infrastructure to offer dependable, secure connectivity for civil and commercial users on land and at sea. Whether it's for emergency crews in isolated areas or vessels far from shore, MBH delivers mission-critical communication with high security standards. This product also supports our strategic goals of becoming a global NTN leader and a trusted name in secure connectivity.”
Designed for simplicity and durability, MBH is ideal for vehicles and vessels beyond standard network coverage. It’s especially useful for maritime operations transitioning in and out of coastal range and for emergency teams operating in remote zones.
The terminal supports multiple applications, including push-to-talk (PTT), email, file sharing, IoT, and asset tracking. It is particularly suited for civil agencies, utility fieldwork, coastal monitoring, and border patrols. Maritime users—from fishing boats and yachts to cargo ships and uncrewed surface vessels (USVs)—can also benefit from its dependable satellite link.
Engineered for rugged use, MBH meets IP67/IP68 standards and includes key features such as geofencing, tracking, and emergency alerts when integrated with third-party platforms. Its robust security includes multi-level access, SIM pairing, PIN protection, and firewall settings, meeting the stringent needs of sectors like fisheries, government, and transportation.
Thuraya MBH also offers user-friendly features: multi-language support (15 languages), intuitive interfaces, affordable data plans, and compatibility with external systems for managing fleets and assets. It even includes an emergency fallback option for sending text-based emails when other networks are unavailable.
The terminal is now commercially available through authorised Thuraya service partners, as of June 19, 2025.
