Sheikh Hamdan was briefed on the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority’s strategic framework, which includes more than 62 projects and 231 activities. This comprehensive strategy is designed to strengthen national identity through heritage by engaging all generations. It also focuses on nurturing talent in heritage and poetry, boosting the heritage economy through traditional crafts and industries, and promoting Emirati culture on the international stage.
He emphasized that preserving the UAE’s authentic heritage and passing it on to future generations is a collective national duty, aligned with the vision of the country's leadership and deeply rooted identity. He affirmed that Emirati heritage will remain a lasting source of inspiration for the youth, thanks to the continued guidance and support of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who considers heritage a key pillar of national identity.
Sheikh Hamdan commended the Heritage Authority’s efforts, applauding its initiatives that reflect the aspirations of the community and contribute to preserving the country’s cultural memory. He also called for expanding activities and strengthening public engagement tools to increase cultural awareness both locally and globally.
He was also updated on the calendar of festivals and events in the Al Dhafra Region, which attract more than 450,000 visitors annually. Among the highlights is the 21st edition of the Liwa Dates Festival, which draws over 116,000 attendees and is supported by a budget of more than AED14 million.
The festival plays a vital role in supporting farmers and productive farms, boosting the region’s economic and tourism sectors, and celebrating the palm tree as a symbol of the UAE’s cultural heritage.
The event features 23 competitions, including those focused on dates and summer fruits, with total prizes exceeding AED8 million. It also offers dedicated spaces for participating organizations, traditional markets, productive families, and heritage artisans, fostering community engagement and encouraging younger generations to embrace and carry forward traditional customs and values.
