emirates7 - The UAE has resumed its humanitarian airmissions over the Gaza Strip under the "Birds of Goodness" initiative, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to easing the suffering of the Palestinian people by delivering vital supplies such as food, water, medical aid, and other emergency relief.
These efforts are part of the broader “Operation Chivalrous Knight 3,” carried out in collaboration with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Following a suspension of nearly nine months due to developments in the conflict, the UAE successfully relaunched the Birds of Goodness airdrops thanks to intensive diplomatic outreach. The initiative plays a crucial role in providing essential assistance to Palestinian families facing severe humanitarian conditions in Gaza. Since its inception, it has delivered approximately 3,750 tonnes of food and relief materials.
The UAE's Joint Operations Command at the Ministry of Defence initially launched the Birds of Goodness campaign on 29 February 2024, beginning with joint airdrops conducted alongside the Egyptian Air Force over northern Gaza. The first operation involved three aircraft and delivered around 36 tonnes of supplies to areas including Jabalia and Beit Lahia.
Utilizing a tri-modal aid delivery system—land, sea, and air—the UAE’s contributions have accounted for 44% of the total international humanitarian aid delivered to Gaza so far, according to United Nations reports.
The airdrops employ GPS-guided containers equipped with advanced technology to ensure precise and timely delivery to designated locations—an innovation tailored for humanitarian operations in crisis or war zones.
Birds of Goodness is a central component of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, which was launched on 5 November 2023 by the directive of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The operation reflects the UAE’s broader humanitarian vision in supporting the Palestinian people.
By 31 March 2025, the UAE had completed 500 consecutive days of humanitarian aid efforts under this operation, providing over 65,000 tonnes of food, medical supplies, and relief materials—valued at over US$1.2 billion—via air, sea, and land.
In addition to delivering aid, the UAE has launched several key projects under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3. These include the construction of two field hospitals—one inside Gaza and another aboard a floating hospital stationed off the coast of Arish in Egypt. Six desalination plants with a total daily output of two million gallons have been set up to supply clean drinking water to communities in need.
Furthermore, 21 mobile bakeries are in operation to distribute fresh bread daily, and 50 charitable kitchens continue to provide meals for displaced and vulnerable families.
