UAE healthcare system sets global standards in preventive medicine: CEO of M42

emirates7 - Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, Managing Director and Group CEO of M42, emphasized that the UAE's healthcare system has set a global standard in preventive medicine, driven by the presence of advanced hospitals, cutting-edge robotic technologies, groundbreaking genomic research, and AI-supported healthcare infrastructure in Abu Dhabi and other emirates.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Nowais credited the nation's medical progress to the visionary leadership of the UAE, which is committed to integrating the latest global advancements in healthcare.

Al Nowais pointed out M42's collaboration with government entities as pivotal in creating a new healthcare model. This model focuses on data analysis, early identification of health risks, and providing quicker, more cost-effective treatments.

He added that M42 is dedicated to transitioning from traditional treatment approaches to a more proactive, prevention-oriented healthcare system. The group also focuses on promoting healthy aging, improving quality of life, supporting a sustainable healthcare model, and enhancing overall well-being.

“For meaningful and lasting improvements in global human longevity, we must focus on three key pillars: precision, preventive, and predictive medicine,” Al Nowais stated, stressing the importance of establishing a sustainable healthcare system that detects diseases early, before symptoms emerge. He highlighted the role of AI, genomic science, and cross-level collaborations in achieving this goal.

Al Nowais pointed out M42's AI- and genomics-based innovations that are advancing healthcare, including the open-source "Med42" clinical language model and the AI-powered "AIRIS-TB" system, which conducts 2,000 chest X-rays daily to fight tuberculosis. This represents a significant increase in diagnostic capacity compared to traditional methods, which only handle 200 exams in the region.

He also mentioned that AI is being integrated into endoscopic procedures to improve the detection of abnormalities and early cancer signs.

Additionally, Al Nowais noted the importance of M42's Omics Centre of Excellence in advancing genomic research, particularly the UAE Genome Programme, which is paving the way for precision medicine and proactive health management in the country.
