Jordan, Syria, Lebanon reopen airspace as Israel, Iran trade fire

emirates7 - Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon reopened their airspace on Saturday after closing it the previous day due to the exchange of fire between Israel and Iran.

All three countries border Israel, but only Jordan maintains official diplomatic relations with it.

Syria, previously ruled by Bashar al-Assad—an ally of Iran—has been led by Islamist former rebels since Assad’s removal in December.

Lebanon is home to Hezbollah, a militant group that suffered heavy losses in a conflict with Israel that ended in late 2024.

Since then, the Lebanese government has been working to enforce a ceasefire requiring Hezbollah to surrender its weapons and withdraw from areas close to the Israeli border.

“Jordan reopened its airspace starting at 7:30 am (0430 GMT),” said Haitham Misto, chairman of the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission.

Lebanon’s Transport Minister Fayez Rassamni announced that the country’s airspace would reopen from 10:00 am (0700 GMT) on Saturday.

Similarly, Syria’s aviation authority confirmed the reopening of its airspace to civilian flights.
