emirates7 - The Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO), in collaboration with the Emirates Scholar Center for Research and Studies, has launched two new peer-reviewed academic journals: the International Journal of Rehabilitation & Disability Studies and the Emirati Journal of Applied Psychology.
This initiative represents a strategic alliance aimed at advancing scholarly research in rehabilitation and mental health, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a regional and international hub for innovative scientific contributions.
Both journals undergo rigorous peer-review by expert academic committees and have already been indexed in reputable international databases. Since their unveiling, the journals have garnered significant interest, receiving over 134 research submissions. More than 20 full-length papers are set to appear in the first issues, with over 100 additional submissions currently under review.
This milestone builds upon a series of previous collaborative projects between the two institutions, such as the multilingual UAE–Russian Psychology Dictionary, a GPT-powered application dedicated to psychological science, and the newly completed French edition of the dictionary, now available in four languages. These efforts have dramatically increased access to academic resources across the region and Europe, fostering global scholarly exchange. Collectively, these digital initiatives have amassed more than 5 million views, with the dictionary alone drawing over 100,000 visits.
Abdullah Abdulali Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of ZHO, noted that scientific research and specialised knowledge are key to developing inclusive rehabilitation systems. He affirmed that the partnership with Emirates Scholar reflects this vision by launching meaningful initiatives that support People of Determination and society as a whole. He stressed that the creation of peer-reviewed journals and multilingual academic tools demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to leveraging science for empowerment and sustainable development.
Dr. Fawaz Habbal, Director-General of Emirates Scholar, emphasized that these efforts directly respond to critical societal needs in areas vital to improving quality of life. He called on researchers to actively contribute work aligned with these progressive goals.
The inaugural editions of both journals will be officially launched during the second European Arab Medical Congress, scheduled for 9–11 October 2025 at the Abu Dhabi Energy Center. Organised by Emirates Scholar in partnership with ZHO and the European Medical Association, the congress will be held under the theme “Practical Approaches in Rehabilitation Medicine and Psychology,” and is expected to draw wide international participation from specialists and researchers.
The event will also feature the 2025 Psychology Award Ceremony, celebrating exceptional research and initiatives that advance quality of life and promote sustainable mental well-being.
