emirates7 - Dubai Police airport security officials, alongside strategic partners, recently gathered to discuss the future of civil aviation security at Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), which is set to become the world's largest with a projected capacity of 260 million passengers.
The panel discussion, organized by the General Department of Airport Security in collaboration with the Future Foresight Centre and the Corporate Development Office for Ports Affairs, followed directives from Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.
The event, held at THUKHER Club, aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, who recently approved the designs for a new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International. Construction, estimated at AED128 billion, is set to begin immediately. The new airport will be five times the size of Dubai International Airport (DXB), with plans to shift all operations there in the coming years.
The session, titled "Envisioning the Future of Al Maktoum International Airport – The Largest Airport in the World," focused on three key areas: strategic infrastructure planning, future trend analysis, and the integration of smart technologies.
Brigadier Hamouda Belsuwaida Al Amri, Director of the General Department of Airport Security, emphasized the session's importance, highlighting its role in shaping the future of civil aviation security. The goal was to address challenges, adapt to rapid developments, and forecast future events based on data analysis. Al Amri stressed the need to make decisions today that would ensure a prosperous future for the sector.
He noted, “We stand united to tackle challenges, plan, work, and succeed, regardless of the circumstances, ensuring our operations continue smoothly. With our dedicated workforce and commitment to investing in their growth, we are confident in securing a bright future. Integrating smart systems and enhancing infrastructure will be essential to securing our airports.”
Al Amri also emphasized the role of airports as global hubs, underscoring the need for safety and security to foster cultural, intellectual, and economic exchange. He highlighted the importance of adapting to technological advancements and implementing sustainable solutions to improve operational efficiency and the passenger experience.
Colonel Dr. Hamdan Al Ghassia, Director of the Future Foresight Centre at Dubai Police, noted the significance of the discussion as an opportunity to generate ideas for addressing future challenges and ambitions for Al Maktoum International Airport. He stressed that the session aimed to present forward-thinking initiatives aligned with Dubai Police’s strategic vision and the government’s plans for the sector.
