Crown Prince of Sharjah opens 2nd session of consultative council

emirates7 - Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, will officially open the second ordinary session of the 11th legislative term of the Sharjah Consultative Council this Thursday at the Council’s headquarters.

This session follows Emiri Decree No. (56) of 2024 issued by Sheikh Dr. Sultan, calling the Sharjah Consultative Council to convene for the second ordinary session on 10th October 2024.

The Council's first ordinary session of the 11th legislative term, which ran from December 2023 to June 2024, saw significant achievements. During 12 public sessions, the Council debated five important draft laws and discussed three general topics relating to policies of various departments, including the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, the Sharjah Fisheries Authority, and the Department of Islamic Affairs.

These discussions culminated in 20 recommendations reflecting members' ideas to promote development in Sharjah and enhance the quality of services provided. Both male and female members actively participated, with 55 members requesting to speak, contributing to 150 total interventions throughout the sessions.

Members posed 144 questions on community affairs and the functioning of government institutions, aiming to strengthen transparency and improve parliamentary oversight of government operations. Additionally, there were 95 notable contributions specifically related to the draft laws discussed.

The Council’s committees, including those on Legislative and Legal Affairs, Financial, Economic, and Industrial Affairs, and others, held 49 meetings to deliberate on various subjects and form recommendations. They conducted 22 field visits to institutions and facilities to assess progress and identify challenges, aiding their recommendations.

The Bureau of the Council also met five times to coordinate and steer parliamentary activities in line with the emirate's interests. During the first session, the Council received 39 proposals for sectoral development and addressed 61 personal and electronic complaints.
