UAE a model for empowering People of Determination: Rehabilitation Alliance Hong Kong

emirates7 - William Chan Hei Lung, General Secretary of Rehabilitation Alliance Hong Kong, praised the UAE for being a model in empowering and integrating People of Determination into society.

During his speech at the World Congress on Rehabilitation (WCR) 2024, Lung commended the UAE's long-standing commitment to supporting People of Determination, attributing its success to sustained efforts over the years. He emphasized the importance of the WCR as a global platform for sharing knowledge and best practices among experts worldwide, noting that the event’s focus on promoting employment opportunities for People of Determination is key to fostering inclusivity and equality.

At the WCR, many participants are presenting successful programs and strategies aimed at empowering People of Determination in their communities. Lung encouraged governments around the world to adopt similar approaches in their local policies to enhance the rights and welfare of this group.

The WCR 2024, which is taking place in Abu Dhabi under the theme "Work and Employment," seeks to address the global challenges faced by People of Determination in the labor market and raise awareness of their rights and contributions.

Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO), the congress runs until 25th September at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). Organised by ZHO in partnership with RI Global and the International Social Security Association (ISSA), this is the first time the congress is being held in the Middle East, attracting over 500 participants from more than 70 countries, including top experts, academics, and researchers in rehabilitation and healthcare.
