emirates7 - The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen Dubai's position in the global medical tourism sector. This partnership aims to elevate Dubai as a top destination for healthcare, quality of life, and overall well-being.

The MoU was signed by Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of DET, and Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director General of DHA, in the presence of several officials and experts from both organizations. The agreement focuses on enhancing Dubai's competitiveness, efficiency, and transparency in healthcare, adhering to international standards while fostering innovation. It aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, which seeks to position Dubai as a leading destination for both business and leisure, and an ideal place to live and work. The initiative also aims to strengthen Dubai’s global competitiveness in the economy, tourism, trade, logistics, and investment.

Helal Almarri emphasized that the collaboration aligns with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, aiming to forge partnerships that advance Dubai’s status as a leading global destination. He expressed the desire to attract investments for innovative healthcare projects and host major global medical conferences, making Dubai the top choice for travelers seeking high-quality medical services.

Awadh Al Ketbi highlighted Dubai’s strategic location and impressive achievements, particularly in the healthcare sector, which have boosted its international reputation. He noted that Dubai’s advanced infrastructure, technology, and supportive legislation have created attractive investment opportunities in healthcare, drawing leading international hospitals and specialized centers to the city.

A recent DHA report showed significant growth in medical tourism in 2023, with 691,478 international patients seeking world-class treatment in Dubai. Healthcare spending by medical tourists surpassed AED1.034 billion, a rise from 2022, when 674,000 medical tourists spent AED992 million. Additionally, indirect revenues from medical tourism exceeded AED2.305 billion, contributing to Dubai’s GDP and driving growth across sectors like aviation, hospitality, and telecommunications. This highlights Dubai’s role as a key global medical tourism hub and a catalyst for broader economic growth.
