UAE celebrates 'Emirati Women's Day' on Wednesday

emirates7 - The UAE will observe "Emirati Women's Day" on Wednesday to recognize the significant achievements and contributions of Emirati women to the nation's progress.

This year's theme, "We Share for Tomorrow," is inspired by the guidance of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as the Mother of the Nation. As Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), Sheikha Fatima's vision underscores the UAE's commitment to inclusive development, engaging all societal segments in realizing its future goals.

The UAE has made notable advancements in gender equality, ranking seventh globally and first in the region on the Gender Inequality Index 2024, published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Emirati Women's Day celebrates these achievements in women's empowerment and highlights the importance of sustained progress in this area.

The annual observance also showcases the UAE's progress in empowering women and reinforces the esteemed reputation of their accomplishments across various fields.

In recent years, the UAE has enacted numerous laws and legislative amendments addressing different aspects of women's lives, including employment, protection, political participation, and personal status. These reforms have elevated women's standing and enhanced the UAE's global competitiveness.

Two years ago, the UAE introduced the Gender Balance Strategy 2022-2026, driven by a clear future vision to position the UAE as a global leader in gender balance.

The strategy is built around four key pillars and objectives: economic participation and entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, well-being and quality of life, protection, and global leadership and partnerships.

The aim is to move beyond closing gender gaps and adopting best practices to establishing the UAE as a global exporter of gender balance expertise, focusing on the post-competitiveness phase.

Supported by a robust legislative framework and national mechanisms, the UAE stands as a leading global model in safeguarding women's rights. The General Women's Union and the UAE Gender Balance Council have been instrumental in empowering women and enhancing their capabilities across various domains.
