WGES 2025 to explore role of technology, innovation in advancing climate security

emirates7 - The World Green Economy Summit (WGES), held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has firmly established itself as a key driver of global climate action and a vital platform for supporting communities most vulnerable to climate change.

By focusing on practical and actionable solutions, the summit aims to strengthen climate resilience and security.

Organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO), the 11th edition will take place from 1–2 October 2025 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Themed ‘Innovating for Impact: Accelerating the Future of the Green Economy’, this year’s summit will spotlight how modern technologies can support developing nations and boost their resilience to climate-related challenges.

The summit’s Technology and Innovation track will showcase the application of transformative Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies—including artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT)—in advancing renewable energy integration, enhancing data analytics, and improving carbon emission monitoring.

In addition, the event will explore energy storage innovations and stress the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors in developing and scaling green technologies. Smart, sustainable initiatives that align with long-term environmental goals will also be featured.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD and CEO of DEWA, and Chairman of WGEO, highlighted that hosting WGES in Dubai reinforces the UAE’s leadership in global climate efforts. The summit offers a platform for sharing breakthrough solutions that drive the shift toward a green economy.

He stated, “Climate change poses a serious risk to developing nations, which often lack the infrastructure and resources to handle extreme weather events. Ensuring climate security in these regions calls for integrated efforts and the equitable use of advanced technologies. WGES plays a crucial role in enabling these communities by promoting the adoption of suitable technologies. This approach is key to securing a safer future for those most affected by climate change. The summit also aims to foster responsible innovation, encourage global cooperation, and mobilise funding to turn sustainable solutions into action.”

WGES 2025 will prioritise the fast-tracking of technology and knowledge transfer to strengthen the adaptive capacity of developing societies. It will also advocate for supportive regulatory frameworks that facilitate the adoption and expansion of emerging technologies, particularly in nations with limited readiness.
