Excel London hosts first event in new 25,000 sqm state-of-the-art expansion

emirates7 - Excel London – part of ADNEC Group and a subsidiary of Modon – has officially opened the doors to its newly expanded, cutting-edge facilities, positioning it as the largest fully integrated conference and exhibition venue in Europe.

The launch coincided with the thrilling finale of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which served as the first event hosted in the newly added 25,000sqm space. Constructed by McLaren Construction, the expansion increases Excel’s total footprint by 25%, bringing it to 125,000sqm (1.3 million sqft).

Driven by rising demand from the UK, Europe, and North America, this development is part of ADNEC Group’s £350 million strategic investment into London’s business tourism sector. It also aligns with Excel’s vision to become the world’s premier destination for events.

The expansion offers sweeping views of the London skyline and features a significantly enhanced International Convention Centre, alongside cutting-edge exhibition halls, meeting spaces, and conference rooms. This enables London and Excel to attract and accommodate some of Europe’s largest congresses.

Built according to BREEAM’s top sustainability standards, the project includes newly developed public green spaces and an upgraded pedestrian and cycling-friendly waterfront. Excel remains fully powered by renewable energy, and the construction itself avoided over 11,000kg of CO2e emissions by using Cemfree, a low-carbon mortar alternative.

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Chairman of Excel London and Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group, said the expansion represents a key strategic investment that strengthens ADNEC’s global footprint and boosts London’s standing as a top-tier events hub.

He emphasized that the added space would attract larger international events, stimulate the local economy, support thousands of jobs and businesses, and increase revenue through improved venue utilization and concurrent event hosting.

“This added flexibility allows us to diversify the types of events we host, expand our calendar, and attract high-profile global brands—especially in science and tech—driving our long-term growth,” he said.

Excel London CEO Jeremy Rees called the expansion a landmark achievement, especially in the venue’s 25th anniversary year. “This is more than just a physical growth—it’s an investment in our future and a declaration of our ambition to lead on the global stage. Hosting Formula E as our debut event is a perfect symbol of that vision,” he said.

Rees also revealed unprecedented interest in the new space, with bookings surging and 10 major international congresses already confirmed for 2026—a record for a single year—further cementing London’s role as a world-class destination for events.

Excel, alongside its entertainment district Immerse LDN, hosts over 400 events annually and welcomes four million visitors—25% of whom come from abroad. Since its acquisition by ADNEC in 2008, the venue has continuously expanded its scale and impact through consistent investment and strategic growth.
