Abu Dhabi Festival 2025 to open with New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra

emirates7 - The 22nd Abu Dhabi Festival is set to kick off on February 7th with the Arab world debut of the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the renowned Yutaka Sado and featuring acclaimed tenor Jonathan Tetelman.

A second performance will follow on February 8th, showcasing celebrated pianist Kyohei Sorita at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.

Organized by the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF), this year’s festival is themed “Abu Dhabi – A World of Harmony” and celebrates over five decades of friendship between the UAE and its country of honor, Japan.

The opening concert will feature tenor Jonathan Tetelman, performing selections from Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, Le Villi, and Turandot. Also performing is pianist Kyohei Sorita, the silver medallist of the 2021 Chopin Competition, who will deliver a rendition of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2. The orchestra will further present Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 (From the New World), inspired by the composer’s experiences in America.

On February 8th, Kyohei Sorita will return to perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, accompanied by the orchestra’s renditions of Yasushi Akutagawa’s Triptyque for Strings and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, a powerful exploration of fate and triumph.

These two monumental performances mark the start of an extraordinary season for the Abu Dhabi Festival 2025, cementing its status as a beacon of artistic excellence. The event continues to showcase world-class talent and enrich cultural experiences both locally and internationally.
