emirates7 - The 4th Al Sila Marine Festival is set to take place from December 4th to 8th, 2024, at Al Sila Beach in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra Region.
Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the event is organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club.
Over five days, the festival will host 57 marine, sporting, and beach competitions, offering prize money exceeding AED 4 million. Key events include the Al Sila 43-ft Dhow Race, the Barakah Traditional Sailboat Race, the Al Sila Sheri Fishing Contest, falconry championships, cycling races, running events, beach volleyball, and beach football.
In addition to the competitions, visitors can enjoy heritage contests, traditional games, and various entertainment activities catering to all age groups. A traditional market will feature stalls operated by local families and emerging businesses, offering heritage crafts, products, and traditional dishes. Sponsor and participant stands, a Noukhada Majlis (Captain's Majlis), folk art performances, and other attractions will further enhance the festival experience.
The festival celebrates the UAE’s rich cultural heritage, highlighting the importance of maritime and traditional sports in the community. It also aims to promote tourism and stimulate economic growth in the Al Dhafra Region by showcasing the region’s coastal cities and islands.
