UAE to host region's first ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024

emirates7 - The UAE will host the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, marking the first global women’s cricket event in the region. The tournament, organized in collaboration with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and Dubai Sports Council (DSC), will take place from 3rd to 20th October 2024 in Dubai and Sharjah.

During a press conference at the Dubai Sports Council, attended by ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice, ECB Board Member Zaid Abbas, and Khaled Al Awar, Director of Communications and Marketing at DSC, details of the 18-day event were unveiled. Allardice emphasized the UAE’s cultural diversity, making it a home World Cup for all 10 participating teams, with tickets starting at AED 5 and free entry for those under 18.

Abbas expressed the ECB's excitement about hosting the tournament, highlighting their extensive experience in organizing world-class cricket events. The tournament will feature 23 matches with teams from different continents, including Australia, Scotland, New Zealand, England, South Africa, India, Pakistan, the West Indies, and Bangladesh.

The event will showcase the world's top women cricketers competing for the prestigious T20 title. The ECB will work closely with the ICC and Bangladesh Cricket Board to ensure a memorable experience for both participants and fans.

The 20 league matches will be split between Dubai and Sharjah, with the semifinals scheduled for 17th October in Dubai and 18th October in Sharjah. The final will take place in Dubai. Group A includes six-time champions Australia, alongside India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Group B features Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies, and Scotland.
