emirates7 - Adrien Saddier secured his first DP World Tour title at the Italian Open on Sunday, delivering a stunning birdie-filled back nine to claim a two-shot victory in his 200th tour appearance.
Martin Couvra, who led after the third round, appeared poised for victory for most of the final day. However, Saddier’s five birdies on the back nine propelled him ahead, as he carded a final-round 66 to finish at 14 under par.
Starting the day just one shot behind the lead, Saddier fell three strokes back by the turn, with a birdie on the second followed by bogeys on the fourth and eighth holes.
But the 33-year-old Frenchman found his rhythm on the back nine, firing birdies at the 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th, and 16th to build a three-shot cushion. He then calmly parred the final two holes to seal a memorable maiden win on a milestone appearance.
Couvra, also from France, finished second on 12 under after a round of 69. Scotland’s Calum Hill and England’s Dan Bradbury tied for third at 10 under par.
