emirates7 - A 10-member UAE chess team has traveled to Budapest to participate in the 45th Chess Olympiad, taking place in the Hungarian capital from today until 23rd September.
The delegation, headed by Taryam Matar Taryam, President of the UAE Chess Federation, also includes Abdul Karim Al Marzouqi, the federation's Secretary-General.
The men's team consists of Grandmaster Salem Abdul Rahman Saleh, Omran Al Hosani, Ammar Sedrani, Ibrahim Sultan, and Ahmed Fareed, with support from Armenian coach Vladimir Akopian and Saud Al Marzouqi, head of the national team committee.
The women's team, led by Candidate Master Rouda Alserkal, includes Wafiya Darwish Al Maamari, Mariam Essa, Zainab Al Maamari, and Anoud Eisa, alongside coach Walter Arancibia and administrator Aisha Al Hosani.
As the UAE prepares to host the 47th Chess Olympiad in 2028, Taryam will attend FIDE's General Assembly meetings to discuss future plans.
Taryam emphasized the UAE's long-term strategy, particularly in preparation for the 2028 Olympiad. He also expressed his appreciation to H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Emirates Airline and Group, for sponsoring the team, underscoring the importance of national companies in supporting the country’s sporting success.
