Dubai: Shabab Al Ahli clinch 2-1 win over Ajman in UAE Pro League

emirates7 - Shabab Al Ahli extended their winning streak with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ajman in a thrilling match on Friday night at the Rashid bin Saeed Stadium.

This match was part of the second week of the ADNOC UAE Pro League for the 2024-2025 season.

Shabab Al Ahli opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Bogdan Planic headed in a well-placed goal from a set piece. The Dubai team then doubled their lead in the 68th minute, as Sardar Azmoum found the net with a composed finish inside the box, following an impressive display of control.

Ajman showed determination and managed to pull one back just four minutes later, with Junior Flemmings scoring a powerful header to reduce the deficit to 2-1, reigniting the home side’s hopes.

The match was full of excitement, particularly in the first half. Ajman nearly scored in the 11th minute with a powerful shot from Hikal Chikhaoui, but Shabab Al Ahli’s goalkeeper, Hassan Hamza, made a brilliant save to keep the game level. Later, in first-half stoppage time, Ajman was awarded a penalty, but the decision was overturned after a VAR review.

Shabab Al Ahli continued to apply pressure in the second half. Although an earlier goal by Azmoun was ruled out for offside, the visitors maintained control of the game. Ajman’s efforts to equalize were consistently thwarted by Shabab Al Ahli’s solid defense.

With this victory, Shabab Al Ahli now have six points, placing them third in the UAE Pro League standings. Ajman, still searching for their first points of the season, currently sits in 11th place.

Meanwhile, Al Nasr continued their strong performance in the league with a commanding 4-1 victory over Bani Yas at Al Maktoum Stadium. Al Nasr took an early lead and maintained control throughout, with goals from Adel Taarabt, Othmane Boussaid, Ali Mabkhout, and Abdoulaye Toure securing the win. Bani Yas managed to briefly equalize through Youssoufou Niakate, but Al Nasr's dominance was clear.

Al Jazira, after a disappointing start to the season, bounced back with a 2-0 win over newly-promoted Al Orooba. Rabii scored the opening goal with a header in the 45th minute, assisted by the newly arrived Mohamed Elneny, who delivered a brilliant header assist. Al Jazira missed several clear scoring opportunities, especially in the first half, where they dominated the match.

After two rounds of matches in the UAE Pro League, Al Nasr tops the table with six points, leading on goal difference ahead of second-placed Sharjah and third-placed Shabab Al Ahli, who also have six points. Defending champions Al Wasl, who secured a 1-0 win over Dibba Al Hisn on Thursday, are in sixth place. (with contributions from UAE Pro League)
