emirates7 - The UAE took part in the 40th Asian Horse Racing Conference (ARC) in Sapporo, Japan, a significant global event that gathers experts and specialists in the horse racing industry. The conference addressed the challenges facing the global horse racing sector and discussed efforts at regional and international levels to promote sustainability and enhance the economic returns of this vital industry.

Mohammad Saeed Al Shehhi, General Manager of the Emirates Racing Authority (ERA) and Vice-Chairman of the Asian Racing Federation, showcased the UAE's accomplishments in horse racing, emphasizing that the vision and support of the nation's leadership are key factors in the UAE's success in this sector and in fostering an environment conducive to growth.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Shehhi highlighted the UAE's crucial role in the global horse racing scene, noting a significant 16 percent increase in the number of owners and trainers from 2019 to 2024.

He also mentioned that prize money in the UAE's horse racing sector grew by 6 percent, indicating substantial progress at a time when other regions are facing challenges that hinder growth.

Al Shehhi pointed out that the UAE has a modern legislative framework for horse racing, committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency, which helps in developing regulations that align with international standards.

He further noted that the efforts of the Emirates Racing Authority over the past two years have bolstered the UAE’s position as the largest horse transport hub in the region. Last year alone saw the import and export of over 5,500 horses, a 9 percent increase from the previous year, underscoring the UAE's importance as a central hub for horse import and export.

By attracting and involving top leaders and experts in racing and sports, along with other key stakeholders, the ARC helps shape global and regional agendas to continuously advance the racing industry.
