emirates7 - Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club took the lead on the opening day of the sixth AJP Tour Dubai International Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which began on Friday at Shabab Al Ahli Club in Dubai. The day featured competitions for kids, showcasing impressive performances and drawing a large crowd. ADMA International claimed second place, with M.O.D UAE securing third.
The championship will host 1,300 athletes over three days, including 165 international male and female competitors. A total of 73 clubs and academies from around the globe, such as M.O.D UAE, Commando Group, Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club, and Oman Sur Academy, are participating in the event.
On the first day, hundreds of young male and female participants from clubs and academies across the UAE, aged 4 to 13, competed. This aligns with the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation's mission to support younger athletes, highlight emerging talents, and develop successive generations of champions to continue the UAE’s tradition of success in regional and international competitions.
Youssef Abdullah Al Batran, a Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, commended the young athletes for their outstanding performances and noted the strong participation and significant family presence. He emphasized that this reflects an understanding of the sport’s importance, its mental and physical benefits for children, and its role in nurturing empowered generations who can elevate the nation’s profile.
Al Batran added, "The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation is dedicated to providing youth with competitions that meet the highest international standards. This gives them a platform to demonstrate their skills, motivates their development, familiarizes them with intense competition, and steers them towards professionalism in the sport. This commitment aligns with our strategic vision to strengthen the UAE’s global leadership in sports by promoting Jiu-Jitsu among new generations, expanding the sport’s practitioner base, and focusing on children who represent the future of UAE Jiu-Jitsu."
The championship will continue on Saturday with competitions in the youth and masters categories, beginning at 10:00 GST.
