emirates7 - After a challenging 24 hours marked by João Almeida’s withdrawal from the Vuelta España, Adam Yates delivered a much-needed boost to his team with an impressive victory on the queen stage from Motril to Granada (178.5km).
Yates joined a substantial breakaway early on, leaving the port of Motril with the support of teammates Marc Soler and Jay Vine, who bolstered the Emirati squad’s attack. The British climber made his decisive move 60km from the finish on the Hazallanas climb, pulling away solo and extending his lead on the steep gradients.
Yates arrived alone in Granada with ample time to celebrate, securing a 3’45” lead over most of his general classification rivals. This victory puts him back in contention for the red jersey, currently held by Ben O’Connor (Decathlon-AG2R), who maintains a 5’30” lead over Yates, now in 7th place.
Meanwhile, in France, Marc Hirschi claimed another key win at the Bretagne Classic, marking his second consecutive victory in a one-day World Tour event following his success at the San Sebastian Classic two weeks prior. The Swiss rider crossed the finish line solo, just ahead of a chasing peloton that couldn’t close the gap to the flying puncheur.
