emirates7 - Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities hosted the inaugural Heritage Forum under the theme “Emirati Crafts - Authenticity and Creativity”, with Sheikha Rawda bint Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan in attendance.
The forum highlighted the craftsmanship of Emirati artisans and heritage specialists as part of the university’s commitment to preserving the nation’s cultural legacy and reinforcing national identity across generations. Spanning an entire week, the Heritage Forum featured a series of lectures delivered by university professors and experts, addressing key aspects of Emirati heritage. Among these were “Abu Dhabi Pearls - Treasures of History and the Magic of Beauty” and “The Emirati Burqa: Past and Present”.
Workshops and discussions at the event explored a diverse range of traditional crafts, including the making of Emirati sandals, talli, sadu, and khus. Attendees also learned about perfume and incense production, Emirati attire and jewelry, as well as cultural elements such as Emirati proverbs, palm trees, bile, and date-based foods.
Dr. Najla Al Naqbi, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, emphasized that the forum reflects the university’s dedication to preserving Emirati heritage. She underscored the importance of initiatives that raise students’ awareness of their cultural roots.
Additionally, Dr. Al Naqbi linked the university’s heritage preservation efforts to the UAE’s commitment to sustainability. She highlighted the importance of connecting the nation’s past with its present to ensure that progress and development remain meaningful and culturally relevant.
She also noted that, in recent decades, the UAE has undergone a significant cultural transformation while actively working to safeguard its national identity.
