UAE extends lifeline to Gaza’s health sector, averting total collapse

emirates7 - Through Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, the UAE has played a pivotal role in sustaining the healthcare sector in the Gaza Strip, preventing its complete collapse and ensuring ongoing medical services for Palestinians.

Demonstrating swift and professional humanitarian intervention, the UAE established a strong presence through initiatives such as the Emirati field hospital inside Gaza, a floating hospital stationed in Egypt’s Al Arish city, the transfer of critical patients to UAE hospitals, and the consistent delivery of vital medical aid to bolster Gaza’s healthcare capacity.

Since opening in December 2023, the fully equipped Emirati field hospital has continued treating thousands of patients across various medical specializations, supported by trained professionals and volunteers. By April 2025, it had handled over 51,000 cases, including severe injuries and complex surgeries. The hospital also launched a prosthetics program to assist amputees in rehabilitation and reintegration into daily life.

With a 200-bed capacity and advanced surgical facilities, the hospital’s medical staff successfully performed major operations, including the removal of a 5-kilogram abdominal tumor from a long-suffering patient.

In February 2024, the UAE also deployed a floating hospital off Al Arish’s coast to offer additional support. Staffed by a multidisciplinary medical team, the hospital—equipped with 100 beds, operating rooms, ICUs, radiology, a lab, a pharmacy, and supply stores—treated approximately 10,370 patients by April 2025.

Further emphasizing its commitment, the UAE arranged for the treatment of seriously ill Palestinians within its own healthcare system. Under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the country pledged to receive 1,000 Palestinian cancer patients and 1,000 children with their families for full medical care. By May 14, 2025, a total of 2,634 patients and relatives had been received for treatment.

Medical supplies have been a core component of the UAE’s humanitarian efforts, including the provision of dialysis machines, ventilators, ultrasound equipment, wheelchairs, ambulances, and more. Over the 500 days of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, the UAE delivered more than 1,200 tonnes of medical materials, including 17 advanced ambulances to enhance emergency services.

Public health initiatives also formed a key part of the support. A polio vaccination campaign reached over 640,000 children, aiming to prevent future outbreaks. Additionally, from January 1 to April 24, 2025, Dubai Humanitarian shipped three batches of World Health Organisation medical aid totaling 256 metric tonnes to Al Arish airport for Gaza.

To further safeguard public health and environmental safety, the UAE has also launched water purification and sewage infrastructure rehabilitation projects across Gaza to minimize disease transmission and environmental contamination.
